Mantua

Mantua is located in West Philadelphia between Powelton Village and Fairmount Park.  It extends north of Spring Garden Street, east of 40th Street, south of Mantua Avenue, and west of 31st Street.   Mantua is a dense residential neighborhood of primarily two-story, brick row houses set on even blocks.

Today, Mantua is predominately African-American and characterized by many problems typical of an urban neighborhood. The face of the neighborhood is changing rapidly, however, with the expansion of Drexel University to the south and increasing numbers of student renters.
